Biodrone specializes in drone services for forestry and agriculture. The company, based in Steinkjer, delivers a range of sustainable and innovative solutions and takes on assignments across Norway. Now Biodrone is using drone technology and artificial intelligence to detect mines in war-torn Ukraine.

Biodrone has now joined FI Ocean Space Incubator.

Biodrone from Steinkjer has specialized in drone services for agriculture and forestry. For this purpose, the company has developed software where users can upload images from drones, aircraft, or satellites and run AI models, as well as train their own models.

This software is now in use in several countries, including Norway, Sweden, the United States, Canada, Australia, the UK, Estonia, and Lithuania.

Detecting mines in Ukraine

– Since this software is relatively flexible in terms of applications, we are also exploring opportunities within the defense sector, say Atilla Haugen and Vegard Forbord, the founders of the company.

Together with a company operating in Ukraine, Biodrone is now involved in a project testing whether its proprietary software can be used for mine clearance in the war-affected country.

The goal is to detect and remove mines.

– So far, the results are promising, and we see that the technology is also very well suited for detecting mines, says Atilla Haugen.

Earlier this year, Biodrone joined MIDSEC – Defence and Security Cluster. The company was also well represented with a booth at the Defence Conference at Scandic Hell on September 19.

FI Ocean Space Incubator will support Biodrone with business development, strategy development, and internationalization.

Biodrone’s membership in FI Ocean Space Incubator is part of Siva’s national incubation program.
