Weave Reality has joined NORDSEC to further explore how advanced 3D mapping and XR technology can support defence operations, emergency preparedness, and training exercises.
XR (extended reality) technology is an umbrella term for immersive digital technologies, including virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR)—that blend or overlay digital content with the physical world to enhance visualization, interaction, and situational awareness.
Enhancing situational awareness with Weave Maps
The company’s core product, Weave Maps, is an interactive 3D mapping solution that enables users to create photorealistic scenarios based on real-world environments. Step-by-step scenario development in 3D for emergency services. Using photorealistic maps and virtual objects, users can build their own “PowerPoint” in 3D—selecting map layers, placing objects, and constructing operational sequences in an intuitive interface.
The solution supports training, monitoring, debriefing, and other operational workflows across platforms including VR headsets, desktop PCs, tablets, and mobile devices.
While Weave Maps is currently used primarily for discussion and planning, the company’s long-term vision includes structured debriefing and real-time operational monitoring for more dynamic use cases.
“We believe that planning and executing live operations or training exercises with support from a highly detailed, interactive 3D map can provide better situational understanding, both in real-world missions and in training environments. This is a hypothesis we are eager to explore further through the NORDSEC membership,” says Patrick Carstens, Business Development.
A flexible, hardware-agnostic platform
Weave Reality is a Trondheim-based technology company and subsidiary of Breach VR, one of Norway’s leading XR development environments. The company focuses on products that increase situational understanding and simplify exercises through photorealistic maps and virtual object deployment.
Weave Maps allows multiple users to collaborate on scenarios, integrate GPS data to populate maps with real-world tracked objects, and generate structured exercise reports.
Strategic cluster membership
Weave Reality has previously been part of Ocean Autonomy Cluster, where it gained valuable introductions and industry insights. However, with its growing focus on fire and rescue services and emergency response agencies, joining NORDSEC was seen as a strategic next step.
“The size of the cluster and the connection opportunities were greater than we initially expected. We were left with a very positive impression after our first meeting,” says Eirik Wahl (CTO).

Opening doors to defence collaboration
Through NORDSEC, Weave Reality aims to gain deeper insight into the needs and operational challenges of the Norwegian Armed Forces. The company has experience from a project with the Armed Forces and Ørland Main Air Station, as well as participation in an Army-organised technology conference.
Now, the goal is to demonstrate Weave Maps more broadly to assess where it can deliver tangible operational value.
“We understand that working with the Armed Forces requires patience, as it should. Through NORDSEC, we hope to learn more, build relationships, and contribute to solving concrete challenges using Weave Maps as a tool,” adds Carstens.
Sharing expertise in 3D mapping and XR
As a visually driven platform that benefits from hands-on demonstration, Weave Reality regularly conducts demos and professional presentations. The company is open to showcasing its work to cluster members and other stakeholders interested in 3D mapping and extended reality (XR) technologies.
It also welcomes dialogue with organisations seeking guidance on integrating 3D maps or XR into their operational or training frameworks—and is open to exploring collaborative opportunities within the defence and security ecosystem.
