Clarify, which has been transforming ocean industries with operational data and AI since 2013, becomes a new core partner in Testination. Clarify bridges the gap between the physical and digital world, turning data from sensors, vessels and systems into context that people and AI agents can act on. As a core partner, Clarify will contribute both its software platform and its expertise.
Testination is an open test arena for autonomous and maritime technologies, established by Ocean Autonomy Cluster (OAC), SINTEF Ocean and Trondheim Port. Through testing in realistic environments at Nyhavna and in the Trondheimsfjord, the arena supports the development, verification and adoption of new technologies for maritime operations, surveillance and security.

With Clarify joining as a core partner, Testination strengthens its capabilities in handling and analysing data from integrated sensor systems and autonomous platforms.
“When testing multiple sensors and autonomous systems together, it is essential to be able to collect the data in one place and put it into context. Our platform makes it possible to structure and analyse data from different sources and provide a more comprehensive situational picture,” says Tore Norheim Hagtun, CEO and co-founder of Clarify.
Software and expertise
Clarify works with customers in aquaculture, shipping, energy and infrastructure around the globe. Many of the challenges Testination's partners face are ones Clarify solves every day: getting data from many different sensors into one place, putting it into context, and making it usable for both people and AI.
“We have spent more than ten years making operational data from fish farms, vessels, and infrastructure useful. Testination gets our platform, but just as importantly, it gets the people who know how to connect sensors, structure the data and turn it into decisions and impact. That combination is what makes complex testing pay off faster” says Hagtun.

From sensor data to situational awareness
Building on its work across ocean industries, Clarify has in recent years also developed technology for monitoring and securing critical infrastructure. The company's software platform collects, structures and visualises data from different sensors and systems, enabling information from several domains to be combined into a common operational picture.
The technology has been developed and tested with autonomous surface vessels, underwater drones, cameras and acoustic sensors, with the aim of detecting and identifying events and deviations across land, sea and air.

The technology has been demonstrated to representatives from the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (FFI) and the Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency (FMA).
The technology has also been demonstrated to members of the Norwegian Parliament from the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence and the Standing Committee on Justice, as well as representatives from Trøndelag County Authority. The demonstrations gave the participants an opportunity to see the technology in operation and discuss how autonomous systems can strengthen the monitoring and protection of critical infrastructure and emergency preparedness.

The development has received NOK 8.75 million in funding from the Norwegian Ministry of Defence. The funding supports the development of autonomous and sensor-based technology for advanced situational awareness and monitoring, bringing together Norwegian technology companies and research environments.

Testing complete systems
Modern surveillance and security systems can include sensors and autonomous systems operating underwater, on the surface, in the air and on land. Testination provides an arena for testing how these different technologies perform individually and, increasingly, how they work together.
“The value is created when data from different sources is combined and put into context. This makes it possible to identify patterns, anomalies and potential threats earlier,” says Hagtun.

Vegard Saur is the leader of Testination and is responsible for developing the test arena and facilitating testing and collaboration between technology providers, research communities and users.
“Testination is intended to be an arena where we can test technologies that need to work together. Clarify allows us to take this a step further, moving from testing individual sensors and systems to exploring how data from multiple systems can be combined and used in practice,” says Vegard Saur, Testination lead.
The partnership opens up opportunities to test more complex solutions, where autonomous surface vessels, underwater drones, cameras and different types of acoustic and other sensors can contribute to a common operational picture.

Strengthening Testination
Access to technology for data collection, analysis and integration is important as Testination develops its ability to test complete technology chains in realistic scenarios.
“We see significant value in being able to test the entire chain, from sensors and autonomous platforms to data processing and situational awareness. This gives both technology providers and users a better basis for understanding how the different solutions perform together,” says Saur.

Clarify is already a member of both Ocean Autonomy Cluster and NORDSEC, and is also a portfolio company at FI Ocean Space Incubator. The company already collaborates with a number of other member companies across the two clusters, making the partnership with Testination a natural extension of existing technology and industry collaboration.
As a core partner in Testination, Clarify will contribute both software and expertise to the continued development of the test arena, connecting sensor technology, autonomous systems and data analytics in practical testing.
