Norwegian AI company BrAInXR AS has joined NORDSEC Nordic Defence and Security Cluster, bringing expertise in local artificial intelligence, edge inference and autonomous systems to the network.
Based in Volda, BrAInXR develops AI@Edge solutions designed to enable faster, more private and secure deployment of artificial intelligence. The company focuses on sovereign, on-premises AI systems where data processing and inference can be performed locally rather than relying on cloud infrastructure.
According to the company, the technology is particularly relevant for defence and security applications where latency, resilience, privacy and operational control are critical.

Growing demand for sovereign AI
“Joining NORDSEC gives us access to a strong ecosystem of defence and security actors working on technologies with real operational relevance,” says Peder Smart Sefland, CEO of BrAInXR.
“We see increasing demand for sovereign AI solutions that can operate locally, securely and independently of external cloud infrastructure. Through the cluster, we want to connect our expertise in edge AI and autonomous systems with companies and organisations facing these challenges.”

Contributing expertise in edge AI
BrAInXR also aims to contribute to collaborative R&D initiatives and knowledge sharing within the cluster, including topics related to AI deployment, EU AI Act compliance and data-sovereign architectures.
“We want to be an active contributor to the cluster collaboration by sharing hands-on expertise in local AI deployment and edge inference,” says Sefland.
“At the same time, we believe collaboration across industry, research and defence environments is essential to accelerate the development of trusted AI systems for critical applications.”
The company also highlighted its ongoing partnerships with research environments such as SINTEF as part of its ambition to contribute to future cluster projects and innovation activities.
